My heart is here–I love the missionaries, love the work, and love the precious Christians that have been accustomed to gather round me for prayer and
instruction.
The motto of every missionary, whether preacher, printer, or schoolmaster, ought to be "Devoted for life.”
While I have this day had the privilege of worshipping the true God in solemnity, I have been
pained by the thoughts of those
who have never heard the sound of
the gospel.
I have seen so much of the trials and responsibility of missionary labors, that I am unwilling to urge any one to assume them. The urging must come from a higher source.
And these are some of the Christians of Burmah!… Men born in idolatry… redeemed and marked for His crown in glory! What a sublime thing to be a missionary!
I know not that I shall live to see a single convert; but notwithstanding I feel that I would not leave my present situation to be made a king.
He gave his heart to the Saviour
and perceived that the ambition
to please God was more delightful
than all the other forms of ambition.
But first of all, I shall hasten to
where my Savior sits and fall down
and worship him, for his great love
in sending the teachers to show me
the way to heaven.
