Martha Cochran

Status: On the Field
Location: Asia
Field: Japan
Ministry: Ladies' ministries, Children's ministries

Martha Cochran was saved at the age of 14 and called to the mission field during her sophomore year at Bob Jones University, where she majored in elementary education. She originally thought she would be going to Africa as a missionary, but the Lord had other plans. After teaching third grade for two years at Goldsboro Christian School in North Carolina, Martha felt God leading her to the field of Japan.

Her first two terms were spent working with other GFA missionaries in Chiba and Gifu Prefectures. For the last 30 years, however, she has been working with Narashino Baptist Church, a Japanese church celebrating its 49th anniversary this year. She feels that her background in elementary education was the best preparation for her ministry of teaching the Bible to ladies, teens, and children. She also has several English classes as well as piano hymn-playing students.

In addition to being involved in all of the church's evangelistic outreaches, Martha has had opportunities to present seminars on contemporary Christian music and speak at ladies' groups in various churches.

The articles in her devotional booklet, English Bible Time, are often used in English Bible classes and church publications.

Her greatest delight is to see her former Sunday school students now taking leadership in the church and raising their children for the Lord.
